On March 17, 1990, District 4 crowned nine individual state championships. In AA, 103-Tom Yurko (Benton); 112-Bob Crawford (Milton); 130-Greg Budman (Hughesville); 135-Russ Hughes (Benton); 140-John Hughes (Benton); 152-Troy Erdman (Line Mountain) and 171-Bob Ferraro (Lewisburg) won titles while in Class AAA 189-Jeff Walter (Shikellamy) and in the final bout 275- Matt Neenan (Williamsport) concluded the gold rush. Line Mountain outdistanced Benton for the team title with Erdman winning the school’s first individual state championship. In addition to the nine champions District 4 had two other finalists and each lost to a future 4x state champions. Line Mountain senior Jim Meckley was the runner-up to Cary Kolat and West Snyder’s Nick Snook was bested in the finals (third-straight) by John Hughes. The 140 AA weight class was dominated by our district, in addition to John Hughes and Snook and Montgomery’s Ken Harer was fourth.
