Southern didn't even make it to Milton last year and by adding 1 more stud isn't going to make that much of a difference wyalusings strong from top to bottom not just 5 kids. So I'd take wyalusing for the team dual and southern for the distict individual title

Southern will have freshman bookends with Lane and Bell. Both of them and Thomas will add to their line up.

Southern has to many holes in my opinion. Wyalusing will get more bonus points. Some southern studs will be on Wyalusing studs so barring big upsets southern will have a few decisions where they would normally get falls. Wyalusing should get big points at a few light weights and than at 195 220 and heavy. Either way it goes I think both teams have potential to be in the top 5 in Hershey at the duals. I don't disagree at all with Southern winning the tournament title.

Southern missed Milton last year if I am not mistaken because when they wrestled Miff Lane was hurt and another kid had left the team. I kinda think they lost by 3 if Lane is in they probably win

Only beating Miff by 3 last year doesn't get them to Hershey last year. Wyalusing made it to the state duals technically. Not to mention they gave district champion towanda a run for There money. I believe Wyalusing only graduated one decent kid from last year, that being the Griffith kid. But they easily make up for that loss bringing in a solid freshman class.

Just from looking at the D4 post of returning NE region wrestler's records from last year and deleting all of the less than .500 winning percentage wrestlers, it appears Southern has the edge with Barnes and Thomas in their line-up. Southern has 9 wrestlers with a .500 or better winning % from last season, while Wyalusing only has 7. Lewisburg and N. Penn-Mansfield also have 9 returning with =/>.500 records. Don't get me wrong, quality wins can come from the least expected wrestlers, but it's difficult to predict those matches. I personally won't make a prediction until they start to weigh in this season so we can see possible match-ups, but it was fun to do the math. (especially when I found out that Athens has the most .500 or better wrestlers returning with 11!)

Athens also wrestles a lot easier schedule than southern and Wyalusing. But I will give them credit. They seem to be producing some studs coming up from the younger levels.

I don't know if you can go by individual records. I would think that southern by wrestling the tournaments they do probably has the better quality competition.

I don't know if you can go by individual records. I would think that southern by wrestling the tournaments they do probably has the better quality competition. I agree 100%. Quality of competition and strength of schedule are a big part of getting a team ready for post season. Heck, for all we know, half the kids on the "Returners" list might not return. However, at this point, past records are the only tangible things we have that give any sort of credence to all of our "chest thumping" prior to the season. Everything else is a crap shoot. For instance, Kent Lane is registered at 145lbs for the up-coming Super 32 tournament. Will that be his post season weight? I highly doubt it, but what if it is, and what if Billy Barnes is still at 145? For now I have to give Southern the edge as District champs based on info we have, but things can and will change by the time February rolls around.

Its all about match-ups and moving guys around that determines most outcomes. I remember several years ago Lewisburg beat Benton, at Benton, when Eric Hess moved up to try to get his team a win. That was the year he lost a decision to Nate Brown. I could not hear for three days! But here is the point, when it came time for district duals, Benton won despite forfeiting three weights. As you may recall, they had some real studs then such as Fought, Hess, and about 4 others whose names escape me at the moment. One was the heavyweight (DeMott?). They won the dual meet with Bonus Points. And remember, during district duals the wrestlers can be jockeyed around for better match-ups (as opposed to the team Individual title). Bonus points are often the deciding factor. There are several good teams in our District, with Wyalusing, Montoursville, and Southern Columbia looking the best on paper. It will be very interesting to see the actual match-ups when these teams wrestle each other. I see Southern Columbia scoring too many bonus points against most teams, even conceding the top three weights. But we are only predicting here, I look forward to the actual matches and the match-ups.
