Some good wrestling, and some match ups the fans wanted to see. Lewisburg's Joe Roman 113/120 was ill and our 170 Gardner had a rash and was not allowed to wrestle. Leading up to the match, I had predicted the match would be won between 120-145, and it was. Good match Black Panthers, and as always, it was great to chat with BPF and MiltonD4. Lewisburg's Head Coach Snyder was not at the match.

It was not a very exciting match. People were more excited before they came out to wrestle than during the match. Solomon wrestled his style. That should just about sum it up.

It was more like watching heavyweights, except with speed. I thought both kids wanted to do more but couldn't because of the others ability. Smith could not hit a take down, Solomon was too quick to avoid. Also, they spent a lot of time locked up in the standing position trying to adjust hands and arms for an advantage, but neither was successful against the other. Solomon hit an early take down in the first period as they were going out of bounds. Some fans questioned the call, but the ref was right there so I accept it. Solomon wrestled his usual style, and I think his upper body strength is greater than Smith's. Both kids wrestled hard. It was a good, clean match with two good athletes on the mat. Neither one tried to avoid the other. From an 'excitement' point of view, it depends on what you expect from two talented kids who know better than to expose themselves to the other. There was not a huge weight difference either, which I think is fair to mention. Solomon told me he weighed in at 198.3, and Smith usually comes in around 194. Ryan said he does want to compete in individuals at 195 come post season. He really looks good, physically, at this weight. As BPF mentioned in another post, Ryan will want to wrestle 197 in college, and he's going to that weight now. I think both of these kids will advance through the districts and regionals en route to states. I thought it was a good match! I also agree that Solomon was the more dominant wrestler last night.
