Is this the month they make the decision? I hope it just stays the same. Last but not least stay safe d4 fans and be careful of this damn virus.

PIAA steering committee changed the weights. 13 total. Stayed the same through 160 followed by 172 189 215 285. Still needs to be passed by PIAA board of directors on May 20th I believe. It is highly expected it will pass.

That's to bad, I hope it doesn't pass 195 & 220 where good weights. 106 should have been the one to go if any.

Not sure why you think 106 should be the one cut. 106 gives a spot for all those kids that may be light coming in as freshman. And let me guess you think they can just go back down to junior high. That is not the answer. 106 has been loaded at tournaments compared to others. There is no real answer.

I think it was a great idea. The PIAA really took time with this and I think it is a good start. Nothing says maybe in future the 106 and 113 weight classes could adjusted not eliminated. For example make 108 or 115 see if it makes lineups fill up. But eliminating weight classes not a good option. I think moving the upper weights around like they did is going to make the weight classes much more competitive. Will have less football players who get recruited to wrestle just to fill a weight class on a team.

I would have liked all weights to stay the same green card. That said I have seen more forfeits at 106 than any other weight class by far 220 would be next followed by 113. Like it or not kids are getting bigger .

And how many of those forfeits were with teams that didn’t have some weigh in at 106 or bc they bumped away from someone. Also like it or not there will always be kids that are small and deserve a spot. I too would’ve like to see no weights dropped. Some of the best wrestling is with the light weights.

Think about this 90% of 220 wrestlers have at least 50 lbs of fat of the 285 wrestlers 100 lbs 10 years after graduation they weight 300 plus it would do them good to loose wt and keep it off

I also would have liked to see no changes, but this seems like a happy medium that all can agree with. And with 13 weights, this may help make a simpler tie breaking system at least with some matches. Really happy they didn't adjust the light weights, better wrestling by far. Will also help some of those smaller schools with filling spots, which will help with the forfeits.
It hurts to know however, that there will be some kids that lose a starting spot.

This issue should be a national issue, not a PIAA decision. It wasn't that long ago that we got every state on the same page (with the exception of the 98lb class in NY) and nation wide tournaments have been better for it. Kids knew what weight they were going to make and it made it easier for kids to cross state lines for tournaments. Now we are going in the other direction. I don't understand why we would break from a national set up?

MN and other states do.
