Any bets that after Powerade Tournament season gets stopped by PIAA for fact that they are ignoring all rules set forth. I appreciate their effort and I don’t believe in all the restrictions like “masks while competing”, nor the one day tournament, and even the making rules now for State Tournament in March. That being said a blatant disregard one month into season and during a major spike were the talk is still week to week even day to day about season is a really risk. The fact other teams and schools cancelled tournaments and lost money really not a good idea for Powerade to do this right now. Take the money hit for this year to preserve the sport for this season. I could safely bet if there is one out break at one of the schools that attend this tournament you can beat either PIAA steps in or at a minimum district of that school steps in and does something hopefully just to that school not to entire state or district.

I’m looking for reasons that pushing winter and spring sports back would not be a good idea.
Winter sports could go from January 15th to April 9th or 16th. Spring sports can go all the way to June 30th. You can play with the dates a bit there. There are several schools that have school till middle of June. Most spring sports can not even get outside till April to practice. Spring sports could start practicing March 29th.
Winter sports will face the obvious challenges of Covid and inclement weather. This will also help figure out how to handle masks during competition.
Of course the situation could be worse, but a lot of schools are already postponed till January, then have to cram a season in before sectionals/districts.
Individual post-season is looking at eliminating wrestlers without even stepping on the mat.
Some post-season qualifying tournaments will have to limit participation, and have a criteria of having a .500 record.
So teams starting late will be worried about having enough matches to qualify or will have to forfeit to top-notch wrestlers so they can have a .500 record.
Once we get away from the holidays hopefully we can at least go back to 15-20% capacity indoors to allow more wrestlers in the post-season.
Of course the situation could be the same or even worse. But as of now teams are missing competitions, and really good competitions even though those competitions won't comeback this year no matter when the season is.
I received several emails from teams this morning in District 3 that until late January they can't travel. They can practice with each other. Their school board won't revisit it till Mid January.

How can you say the situation can be worse? I don't really know what could be worse, there will be no wrestling in December and barely any practice. Kids won't even be close to ready for live competition.
I really can't comprehend the idea of wearing masks during sports. Whoever was the bright guy to think of that, probably never participated in a sport and weighs 400 +. These people are insane. Does anyone in their right mind really think that a flimsy face covering is going to prevent a wrestler from passing a virus to someone he is going to WRESTLE for 6 minutes? Do any of these people know what wrestling is? Thinking like this speaks volumes about the people calling the shots.
If masks worked so much then why are we seeing so many spikes in cases even though you can't go anywhere without one?
Kids of all types are suffering for something that has almost 0 risk to them.
Just call the season now, quit giving the kids a false hope just to let them down.

Let teams practice for rest of December and plan mid January for competition start and then do shortened regular season and wrestling post season as usual. Do couple tri meets in your district or league then move on to post season. This way kids will be ready they will working out for over a month. For sports like basketball no scrimmages for wrestling no scrimmages or duals . Kids will get enough of a work out at practice. By mid January most people will either have had it or had the vaccine the numbers will be dropping. And the kids can go back to wrestling completely normal without masks and the postseason can be completely normal duals and individual. If all schools stick together and don’t cross practice with other schools and no scrimmages. But as original post about Powerade says those PIAA teams doing this tournament don’t be surprised if as soon as they compete the PIAA don’t come back and disqualify them from rest of season for disregard of PIAA rules and while I don’t agree with rules this is about the dumbest thing a school can do it this environment. Please don’t misunderstand I don’t think it will be a “super spreader event” like they like to use because I don’t see that happening anywhere but they are gonna put themselves in direct fire of the Governor’s recommendation and the PIAA rules.

No masks, more than 8 men brackets, out of state teams, and more than one day tournament. I am glad they did it but why don’t the rest of teams in PA just stop wearing the masks and just wrestle.
