Bucknell has 4 true freshmen in the lineup and were without Pesarchick (out for season), Lear (back next semester) and McMullen at 197 until December. In a few weeks the lineup will look a lot different and may see Russell who has been improving every year down at 141 and Regan down at 149 and Lyster down at 184.
Highlights of the match was Miller at 125 who is small for the weight but looked real good, Russell at 149 who beat a 4 time state champion, Regan at 157 who beat a NJ state champion and NHSCA Senior National Champion and Stolfi was in the match against the #8 HWt in the nation (score was 3-2 with 15 seconds left and went for desparation).
Nebraska is ranked 26th in the country and started two true freshmen. Their 133 is ranked 17th, 165 ranked 10th, 184 ranked 10th and HWT ranked 8th.
Kokesh at 165 is very tough and is a RS freshman this year after going 34-1 last year in his redshirt year. Keep an eye on this kid.
It is going to be a long season this year for the Bison and any injuries or disciplinary problems on top of it can make it a lot longer and when you combine the fact the program gets no financial support from the university and very little community support compared to a school like Nebraska who is now in the Big 10, it definitely makes it even harder. We are talking BU only has roughly 4 scholarships (through it's endowment) compared to 9.9 with any Big 10 school and currently raises through donations under 100K a year for coaches salaries when schools like PSU net 600K and Cornell nets 400K. The match was held in Sojka Pavillion last night and had less than 800 in attendence.
Their next match is December 3rd in Davis Gym against another Big 10 team Michigan State. MSU is currently ranked 36th in the country and return 5 national qualifiers and have 3 top 20 wrestlers at 157 (#16), 197 (#16) and HWT (#18).
